Winn-Dixie
Its all because of a dog named Winn Dixie that Opals life is changed forever, and I mean forever! Opal moved from Waltey, Florida to Naomi, Florida in the summer time. It was very hard for Opal to make friends in her new town of Naomi. Opal didnt really call Naomi a city, but a small noisy town. She didnt want to move there, but Opal had to so her daddy the preacher could preach at the Open Arms Baptist Church. Opal was the only kid who lived in the Friendly Corners trailer park. It was a trailer park for adults only, but since her daddy was the preacher and that she was a good, quiet kid, she could live there. The only noise around was Mrs. Detwellers little yappy dog-named Samuel. In the book Winn-Dixie, written by Kate De Camillo, there are five important characters in addition to Opal. They are Opals father the preacher, Otis her boss, Miss Franny Block the librarian, Gloria Dump her friend, and of course Winn-Dixie the dog. Otis plays the guitar for the animals at Gertrudes pet shop where he is the manager. He had been arrested for playing his guitar in the street and for hitting an officer with his guitar. Her father, the preacher is very sad that his wife left him and Opal, but he is glad that he and Opal are together. Miss Franny Block is the librarian at the W. Block Memorial Library in the town of Naomi. She loves to read books and tell stories to all who come to the library. Gloria Dump is Opals best friend. She has bad eyesight, and likes to hear stories told by Opal that she has learned at the library. Winn-Dixie, who is a loving and kind dog, is a bit strange because he smiles and sneezes a lot. Gloria however changed Opals outlook on life, by becoming a mother figure to her. She helped her plant a wait-and-see tree, because you had to wait to see what kind of tree it would be. Opal always wanted things to happen all at once, and she wanted her mother to come back. Gloria taught her patience and to wait and see what happens in life. Opal also had an affect on her boss, Otis. At the pet shop, he was sad and lonely because he was a criminal and felt that the animals being locked up in cages made them sad and lonely like him. So he played songs for them to make them happy. The book affected me even when I wasnt reading it. It made me feel happy that I have a loving and caring mother, and sad that Opal did not have a mother. I wanted to jump in the book and go find her and give her a hug. It was a great book that I could read again, it made me feel happy to know that Opal was okay at the end with help from her friends. The unanswered question I have is what ever happened to her mother, and why did she leave and never come back? Winn-Dixie was about how life can be unfair and how Opal overcame struggles in her daily life, and how she met friends along the way to help her. And meeting a special a dog named Winn-Dixie, finding and caring for him made her feel happy and loved.

Because of Winn Dixie
The book Because of Winn Dixie is by Kate DiCamillo. The character of Opal is a ten year old girl with curly red hair who moves to Florida with her preacher father. She finds a dog in a store and wants to take it home. She adopts him and has to clean him up. She names him Winn Dixie. When they go to the library, Winn Dixie frightens the librarian who thinks the dog is a bear. Opal tells her that its her dog. The librarian lets them in and tells them about her bear encounter when she was younger. Opal goes to the pet store to buy a collar and leash but she can not afford the one that she wants. She decides to pay by working there. On the way back home she meets a blind women named Gloria and they become friends. At the end of the story Opal and her friends have a party. It rains in the middle of the party and they lose Winn Dixie. Opal goes looking to find him. Will Opal find Winn Dixie? Read this book to find out.

A ok
I recommend this book to anyone 13 or older because its a really good book about friendship. For example, when the pet employ asked her if Winn-Dixie was her pet, Opal said, "Hes not a pet hes my best friend." Also I recommend it to any one who loves dogs because Winn-Dixie is in many parts of the story. For example, when Winn-Dixie is in the store making a mess, the manager said that he was going to call the pound. Opal said to the manger," Wait thats my dog. Dont call the pound." She said to protect the dog from going to the pound. In conclusion, if you like a book about friendship and animals, this is the book to read.
