The Boy Who Ran Away !

This book is about a ten year old boy named Bud who has no home or real family for comfort. Buds mother died when he was six years old and he was put into an orphanage. Later Bud gets adopted and moves with his foster parents. But things dont go so well for him. I would recommend this book to all young readers in school. Because it is a very easy read and it contains lots of adventures. I enjoyed this book because it was an easy read and it had a happy ending, just the kind of books I like. I also love adventurous books about kids around my age. Although it was sort of sad because he was all alone and came across a lot of problems it was a great book. I extremely liked how Bud seemed to work through all his problems by never quitting. He used his rule list and lots of other mind helping techniques. I really enjoyed this book and I hope that anyone who reads this enjoys it as much as I did. lt;br /gt;

I loved this book!

This was an excellent book for young readers. Bud is a very endearing character and his many adventures make the book a quick read. The story is interesting and fast paced, which keeps the reader engaged. I would recommend this book for anyone looking for a well written, quality piece of literature. Christopher Paul Curtis integrates some of his family history with the significant events of the time period to make this story realistic and historically relevant. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did.

A Great Read for Fifth Graders

This historical fiction novel is a heart-wrenching tale of an African-American boy who is orphaned at an early age and now lives in a home. His desire to be with his father leads him on an adventurous journey, making many friends on his way. Finally, he makes it to Grand Rapids. Bud makes quite an impact on his new family, bringing joy and sad news to the group. lt;br /gt;Because this story takes place during the Depression, it would be an excellent complement to a social studies lesson. Students could research the era and present their findings. Additionally, students could write about the many choices Bud made, whether they were right or wrong. Then, they could comment on whether his decisions were good or bad, regardless of the outcome. This would be a great way to encourage children to make smart choices and stay safe. lt;br /gt;I just adore this book! Curtis is a magnificent writer. I love his colorful descriptions of places, people, and their feelings. The imagery was so vivid, I felt as though I were right there with Bud on his journey. His view of the world made me laugh at times but mostly made me want to cry. I love how Curtis also showed that there is kindness in strangers and that people who do not have much to offer are still willing to help out those who are in need. This is certainly one of the most-loved books Ive read. lt;br /gt;
